FAQ

Q  How long must Polyurethane deck coating systems cure prior to exposure to pedestrian foot traffic?

Minimum recommended cure times are as follows:  Vulkem 350 with 950NF or 951NF Pedestrian Deck Coating is 12 hours. Vulkem 350/351 Pedestrian Deck Coating and the Vulkem 350/950NF/951NF Vehicular Traffic System are 24 hours. The Vulkem 350/346/346 Vehicular Traffic System is 72 hours. Please note that these are minimum recommended cure times and site-specific conditions, weather and temperature all impact cure rate and interlaminar adhesion development. Contact your local project manager for project specific recommendations.

Q  What is the optimal temperature to paint outside?

Until a few years ago you needed to paint above 50° F. Now products from Sherwin-Williams like Duration, LOXON XP, Super Paint and A-100 Exterior will allow you to paint down to 35° F.

Q  Why do I need to use a primer instead of just using two coats of the finish paint?

A primer is beneficial because it helps provide a uniform surface that promotes good adhesion of the topcoat. A primer can also serve a special purpose by sealing a porous surface, blocking out stains, preventing rust formation on iron and steel, and preventing tannin bleed on wood. Most finish paints are designed to provide a decorative or protective finish for a substrate. In most situations, they do not provide the features of a primer, so it is always important to follow the manufacturer’s recommended coating system.

Q  What Are The Benefits Of Replacing My Windows?

If you decide to invest in new windows, you'll benefit in several ways:

  • Lower energy bills
  • Improved ease of use
  • Effortless cleaning
  • Little or no maintenance (depending on the frame material)
  • Enhanced curb appeal
  • Increased resale value
Q  What materials can I use to recoat my EIFS?

For situations where you might wish to change the color of the building, or paint the building for some other reason, EIFS manufacturers produce several quality paint products (acrylic or elastomeric) to recoat and enhance the existing coating. Before recoating, appropriate repairs should be made and the surface should be cleaned to remove any surface contamination.

Q  What does EIFS stand for?

EIFS is the acronym for Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems.

Q  Where can epoxy flooring be applied?

Epoxy concrete coatings have many applications in residential, commercial, and industrial settings such as the following:

  • Garages
  • Basements
  • Breweries and distilleries
  • Retail stores, shopping centers, bars, and clubs
  • Medical facilities including physician practices, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and vet offices
  • Auto shops and car showrooms
  • Food processing facilities, commercial kitchens, and restaurants
  • Gyms, locker rooms, and public restrooms
  • Public safety buildings
  • Educational facilities
Q  Why is epoxy flooring better than traditional concrete flooring?

Traditional concrete isn't as durable as it looks because it's naturally very porous and prone to cracks, spalling, and other issues. An epoxy floor coating protects your concrete floor from stains and damage while increasing its tensile and compressive strength. Epoxy is seamless and nonporous to make cleaning your floors a breeze. It's also highly decorative with endless ways to get the floor you are envisioning.

Q  How long will my property take to dry after water damage?

The time to completely dry a structure depends on many factors such as temperature, humidity, how quickly emergency services begin, amount of saturation and the types of materials affected. Through consistent monitoring and evaluation of the drying process, we can determine when drying is complete. While there are no rules to determine how long your property will take to dry, we can tell you that on average a typical water loss will dry out in three to five days but can be longer.

Q  At what temperature can caulk & sealants be applied?

Most caulk and sealants can be applied in a temperature range of 40° F to 100° F. However, for the best application, the sealant itself must be at or above room temperature. Generally, it's important that the surface be clean, dry, and frost-free for the caulk/sealant to properly adhere to the surface.
